Mindfulness based psychotherapy means paying attention to what is happening at this very moment

in the exchange between two people.

When we give it time and space it is often the past that comes into the present. By looking back at where we come from and what we carry- for ourselves as well as for our family of origin- we might gain a novel appreciation

of our situation. Thus we can begin to clarify what of our past experience continues to sustain us and what habits

of feeling, thinking and acting may no longer be helpful and could be adjusted.

I have come to believe that a major part of this work is about emotional education: simply learning to understand how we feel- and why so. There is a certain freedom that comes with self-knowledge: life will always present us with challenges but being more aware of our strengths, weaknesses and tendencies we can become more resilient and capable of choice.
